Alice Bennett

In 2018 Alice graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in New Zealand Sign Language and  English Interpreting.

She debuted her theatrical interpreting career, with Glen Eden Playhouse’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ as a Platform Interpreting NZ intern, and returned the following year to interpret ‘Bugsy Malone’. Alice’s internship also saw her interpret the NZ comedy ‘Rants in the Dark’ at the Bruce Mason Centre and participate in the NZSL Interpreting team for ‘Christmas on the Maunga’, an outdoor carol service.

Alice then rocked out when interpreting for Auckland Live’s performance of ‘School of Rock’, followed by the cult classic musical ‘Mary Poppins’ both performed at the Civic in Auckland. Alice has also  interpreted  performances  such as ‘Te Whare Kapua’ for  Massive Company and ‘Shrek Junior’ for Glass Ceiling Arts Collective.

In 2021, Alice extended her repertoire to include non musical theatrical works when she team interpreted Auckland Theatre Company’s ‘Single Asian Female’. Later that same year she became the first NZ interpreter ever to be fully integrated, in full costume, within a theatre performance for ‘Alice in Wonderland’ by The Classic Theatre Company.

Alice has also provided translation support for the international musicals which include ‘Chicago’ and Disney’s ‘Aladdin’, along with presenting the Deaf patron pre-show briefings for both ‘Aladdin’ and Auckland Arts Festival’s ‘Astroman'
